Trinity, Indy Launches Young Adult Intentional Living Community and Service Program

In a world marked by individualism and disconnectedness, a new initiative is emerging in Indianapolis that offers a refreshing alternative. Faith at the Crossroads, a young adult ministry hosted by Trinity Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, invites people between the ages of 21 and 35 who are seeking deeper connections, meaningful relationships, and a shared sense of purpose to join an intentional community. Residents of the program live in a historic home on a tree-lined avenue in the heart of Indianapolis.

“Faith at the Crossroads is a unique opportunity for young adults to live in intentional community, explore their spiritual journeys, and tend to their mental well-being, while seeking deeper connections and exploring their vocations in response to a world filled with division and devastation,” said Demarius Walker, Program Director of Faith at the Crossroads.

People can join as a Service Corps Fellow or as part of the Co-Housing Community. Service Corps Fellows are paired with a partner agency to work 32 hours per week, beginning in August 2024. Residents who join through the Co-Housing Community are young adults who are students or are working in the public service sector (nonprofits, education, churches, etc.), seeking a welcoming Christian community and an affordable housing option. All residents adopt an Intentional Rule of Life, a shared set of daily practices.

Through the lens of reconciliation, the Faith at the Crossroads community invites young adults to discern how to live out a progressive Christian faith in the midst of a regressive and divisive political and religious climate. Faith at the Crossroads takes seriously the rise of authoritarian, reactionary Christianity and seeks to nurture a space for young adults to develop faith-rooted, community-based, mentally healthy responses. Ultimately, this community seeks to promote peace and reconciliation in the spiritual, relational, vocational, and civic lives of participants.

One participant in the community reflects on their experience: “Trinity Service Corps–now named Faith at the Crossroads–and Trinity Episcopal Church was my home when I had nowhere else to go. The community gave me the space and strength to be myself, fully out and proud, just as God had made me to be, for the first time ever. Faith at the Crossroads is a sacred place where the Spirit prepares and nurtures those who long to go deeper into the mystery of our Life in Christ.”
