Have you ever wanted to dive deeply into the Bible, church history, and theology? Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year program for adult learners not as a path to ordained ministry (although that is always an option) but to build a faith foundation in a small group community. Seminar groups meet regularly to worship together and tackle challenging issues in a format they can use daily. The cornerstone of the EfM program is Theological Reflection, which teaches seminar members how to apply theological thought to everyday issues. Reflections can be instrumental in finding one’s ministry.
Mentor Sara Bean says, “I have spent almost 30 years involved with the EfM Program. Why? Efm provides a framework for me through study, reflection, worship, prayer and community to support me in my journey to fulfill my baptismal covenant.” Seminar student Mary Riner feels that “This rich and rewarding journey broadened and deepened my worldview of the Christian tradition. The weekly gatherings allowed me to engage with others about my evolving faith life and learn about theirs.” Another seminar student, Brother Jerome Bertrand, says, “EfM has been a transformative journey that intertwines rigorous study with the nurturing of a supportive community. As a participant, I have found the program to be a profound blend of intellectual challenge and spiritual enrichment. It is structured to encourage deep theological reflection, which has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of what it means to be a Christian.”
Seminar groups are located around Indianapolis and the surrounding area. To learn more about the EfM program, contact Diocesan Coordinator Mariann Scott.
