David Ramsey to Become Waycross Executive Director

Dear fellow friends of Waycross,

We are delighted to announce that the Waycross Board of Directors has voted unanimously to appoint David Ramsey as the next executive director of Waycross Camp and Conference Center.

David comes to us after four years as the executive director of DuBose, a year-round camp, conference and retreat center near Sewanee, Tennessee. At DuBose, he has implemented a farm-to-table program with the support of a grant from the Episcopal Church and has also developed strong partnerships that have resulted in a rich variety of programs for adults and families alongside a robust camp for children and youth. He is a native of Tennessee and a lifelong Episcopalian but is no stranger to Indiana; after earning a B.A. in religious studies from the University of Tennessee, he spent two years in graduate school at Indiana University in Bloomington.

David’s enthusiasm for camp and conference ministry, and especially for Waycross, is palpable. “I came prepared to meet a scarcity mentality and fear about the future,” he wrote after his interview with us in April. “What I found almost to a person was a sense of pride and ownership of the organization. I came away with strong feelings of abundance and opportunity. You have so much to be proud of in the place you have created and stewarded!”

It is this enthusiasm, coupled with strong business, financial and organizational experience and deep Christian commitment that convinced us that David has the experience and collaborative spirit to guide Waycross into its next phase.  Waycross has a central role to play as a spiritual home for all ages where we can learn what it means to offer a radical welcome and bold witness to God’s love, and we believe that David is the leader who can help us realize that vision.

We look forward to welcoming David and his wife, Sarah Strickland, to the diocese in June, and to sharing more news with you soon about the plans for renewed and renewing ministry at Waycross.

Faithfully,

The Rt. Rev. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows
Bishop of Indianapolis
