Camp Is Coming: Waycross Staff Gearing Up for Summer!

By: Rebecca Davis, Waycross Camp Program Director

Counselors have arrived at Waycross and that means camp is almost here! Right now, our dedicated summer camp staff are in the midst of staff training, preparing not just for the logistics of camp, but for something even more important – creating a safe and joyful environment for every camper who joins us.

Staff training is more than learning schedules and safety procedures (though we do plenty of that!). It’s a time of intentional community building, where camp staff come together to learn how to support each other, work as a unified team, and cultivate an atmosphere where every camper can thrive. We are equipping our staff with the tools they need to facilitate meaningful spiritual, social and personal growth in every camper that they serve.

Over the last couple of days staff have learned how to lead worship, music, archery, outdoor games and crafts (among many other things!). A couple of days ago we embarked on an overnight campout – just like campers at Waycross do each week. This was a highlight of staff training – overcoming the challenge of spending the night in the wilderness together builds stronger relationships and leaves both campers and staff feeling empowered.

We ask for your prayers for our staff as they prepare to radically welcome campers this summer!

Many of our sessions are almost full, but there are still some spots open if you have a camper who you haven’t registered for camp yet! We have scholarships available – please help us spread the word so that no camper misses the camp experience due to financial reasons.
