Youth Confirmation Pilot Kicks off at St. Christopher’s

By: Heather Campbell, Diocesan Youth Minister

A new diocesan-wide youth confirmation curriculum is underway at St. Christopher’s as part of a long-term vision for youth ministry in the diocese. The initiative aligns with the five-year plan developed in partnership with Ministry Architects, which aims to establish a “buzz-worthy, totally awesome, highly accessible, and theologically sound” confirmation process by the fall of 2026.

The project took shape in February 2024, when a team of clergy with experience in youth ministry collaborated with Ministry Architects and Diocesan Youth Minister Heather Campbell to outline the curriculum. The clergy team—Rev. Greg Baker, Rev. Holly Rankin-Zaher, and Rev. Jen Oldstone-Moore—worked together to draft and refine the program.

St. Christopher’s volunteered to pilot the curriculum, launching the program on January 24. Youth leaders and clergy at St. Christopher’s are working alongside Heather to teach the material, which is divided into seven key units:

  • Our Worship
  • Our Story–Introduction to the Bible, God’s Story, Our Story
  • Our Church–Church history, structure, polity, and the local church
  • Our Faith–Beliefs, the Catechism, and sacraments
  • Our Call–Service, spiritual gifts, and vocation
  • Our Mission–Diocesan mission and biblical justice
  • Our Confirmation

The pilot program will conclude at the end of March, followed by a final review and revision of the curriculum. The goal is to make the resource available for congregations while also launching a diocesan-wide confirmation cohort for high school youth, set to begin in Fall 2025.
