From Bishop Jennifer: Getting Ready for the New Day to Arrive

Dear Ones,

As news of effective COVID-19 vaccines provides us with some much-needed Advent light, I have been dreaming and praying about how we as the people of God in southern and central Indiana can play our part in restoring hope to our congregations and communities. For our diocese to begin 2021 ready to serve, I need your help.

In this liminal time, your contribution to the 2020 Bishop’s Appeal will help energize our efforts to be beacons of Jesus Christ shining across our region.

Even during this challenging year, members of our diocese have been hard at work. Last spring, I gathered a task force of clergy and laypeople to give prayerful consideration to our diocese’s mission strategy. They came back to me with plans for increased collaborations among congregations and ministries: hubs and satellites enabling Episcopal presence in new and vibrant ways, drawing on shared resources and energy. This is the kind of work your contribution to the Bishop’s Appeal makes possible.

These seeds of hope have grown even during the pandemic as we have begun gathering online for Brave Worship workshops to help us learn how reach out to our ever-diversifying communities by including more diverse choices of music in your worship services. Our new diocesan Team for Racial Healing and Reconciliation has also begun to coordinate trainings for dismantling systemic racism and supporting congregational initiatives to bring us closer to the Beloved Community. This, too, is work you can support with a gift to the Bishop’s Appeal.

Saints, we are not yet able to live our lives or live out our faith in quite the ways we feel called. But Advent, as you know, is a time of preparation. Please join me in giving to the Bishop’s Appeal so that when the new day arrives, we are ready to greet it as the beacons of Christ we are called to be.

Faithfully,
