Kristin White Appointed Canon to the Ordinary for Congregational Development and Leadership

Dear ones,

In May, I wrote to you to share my thinking about the ways my staff and I can best foster congregational vitality and support innovative ministry in our communities. To advance that work, I announced that I was opening a search for a canon to the ordinary for congregational development and leadership.

Today I am delighted to announce that I have called the Rev. Kristin White to that position. Kristin is an experienced leader, a lifelong Episcopalian, and a skilled pastor and priest. Since 2012, she has served as rector of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Wilmette, Illinois, and was previously associate rector of Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, Illinois. A native of eastern Oregon, she also has deep experience as a leader in rural congregations and communities. She will join us on October 1.

In the Diocese of Chicago, where I was fortunate enough to serve with her before I became your bishop, Kristin is currently president of the Standing Committee, a member of the diocesan endowment committee and a diocesan consultant and trainer with the College for Congregational Development. Previously, she co-created and co-led Organized Redemption, a Christian community organizing training series, and served as dean of the Evanston Deanery, a member of the Commission on Ministry, the Task Force on the Diaconate, and subsequently, the Deacon Leadership Team.

For nearly a decade prior to being ordained a priest, Kristin taught high school English and facilitated student mentoring and leadership. She holds degrees from Cottey College, Western Oregon University, Willamette University, and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Kristin and her husband, John, are the parents of a college-age daughter, Grace.

Kristin writes that she is committed to doing all she can to help the church she loves grow more and more into the fullness to which we are called as the Body of Christ. In my time as your bishop, I have seen with joy the many ways that you share this deep commitment, and I look forward to welcoming Kristin to our ministry.
