We Are Advent People: A Message from Bishop Jennifer

Most Gracious Lord, by whose direction this time
Is appointed for renewing
The memory of your infinite mercy to all people
In the incarnation of your only Son,
Grant that we may live this holy time in the spirit of thanksgiving,
And every day raise up our hearts to you in grateful acknowledgement
Of what you have done for us.
Besides this, we ask your grace, O God,
That we may make a due use of this holy time,
For preparing our souls to receive Christ our Lord
Coming into the world at the approaching solemnity of Christmas.
Christ came into the world to do good for all….
In all things, O God, may we follow the spirit of charity,
Being forward in bringing comfort and relief to all,
As far as their circumstances shall require, and ours permit.

Grant, O Lord, that we may prepare to meet our Redeemer.  Amen

–John Goter (1650-1704), adapted

Dear Ones,

We are Advent People–always hoping and always expecting our Savior Jesus Christ. In these days of preparation and anticipation, I hope you will make time for prayer and reflection that even as we exclaim, “Come, Lord Jesus,” you too would know yourself to be the bearer of love and hope in our world.

Faithfully,

Bishop Jennifer

P.S. I’ll once again be sharing visual meditations at #AdventWord. Please feel free to follow along and/or join in!
