Pilgrimage to Brasilia in July; Donations Sought for Community Center

At the beginning of July, Bishop Jennifer and 14 members of the diocese will travel to visit the people of the Diocese of Brasilia in Brazil, where the Diocese of Indianapolis first established a companion relationship in 2009. In conjunction with the pilgrimage, the Global Missions Commission is raising funds to build a new sports and community center in Brasilia.

“The sports and community center has been a dream of the Diocese of Brasilia since 2002,” said the Rev. Jeffrey Bower, chair of the commission. “Such a center will be the focal point of the entire community, providing opportunities for sports, wellness, and other activities to bring the community together, both children and adults alike.”

The commission has received an anonymous matching gift of $25,000 to support the sports and community center construction. The fund to match the anonymous gift has been established in memory of the Rev. Drew Klatte, a former chair of the Global Missions Commission who was instrumental in developing the partnership with Brasilia before his death in 2014. To date, $17,000 of the memorial fund has been raised, including a lead gift from St. John’s, Lafayette.

To contribute to the fund for the sports and recreation center in Brasilia, visit the giving page on the diocesan website and choose “Brasilia Project” from the menu.
