Call to Convention: 180th Diocesan Convention—Come to the River

CALL TO CONVENTION, JUNE 2017 

Pursuant to Article IV Section 2 of the Constitution of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, notice is hereby given that the 180th annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis will be held at Kye’s Event Center, 500 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville, IN 47130, on October 26 – 28, 2017.  St. Paul’s, New Albany and St. Paul’s, Jeffersonville will co-host this convention.

All of the convention materials (proposed budget, proposed resolutions and constitution & canon changes, etc.) will be sent by email, posted on the website and sent in the Wednesday Mailbag and monthly e-news.   It is your responsibility to print the materials, or load them onto your personal device, and bring them with you to the convention.  Wifi access will be very limited, so please do not rely on the internet to access these materials.

If you are a delegate and unable to attend the convention, it is your responsibility to notify Kim Christopher at the diocesan office of the change.

As specified in Canon 9, Section 3 and 4, each Deanery Council will meet prior to Convention. This meeting is to include all clergy, wardens, delegates, and alternates.  General Convention Deputies will be available at these meetings to discuss Convention protocol.  Please underscore the importance of the Deanery meetings.  They are the venue for:

  • Discussion of the 2018 program and budget, as presented by the Executive Council
  • Introduction of nominees for diocesan elections
  • Proposed Resolutions and changes to the Constitution and Canons
  • Other business that the Dean may include for discussion or action.

Convention Dinner is scheduled for Friday evening, October 27th, at 7:30 p.m. at Kye’s. Reservations are required and must be received no later than September 30th.  Details and payment information will be posted on the diocesan website at a later date.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sheraton Riverside Hotel in Jeffersonville.  Room reservations must be made with the hotel directly: 812-284-6711 or 800-397-3342.  Please tell the hotel you are making reservations in the room block for the Episcopal Diocese Convention.  The last day to make hotel reservations is Oct 5, 2017.  The negotiated cost per night is $135 plus applicable taxes.  (The negotiated rate is not guaranteed after the cutoff date) You may also click on this link to make your reservations online.
