SUMMARY:The Spirituality of Howard Thurman
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, September 16th\, the diocesan Racial Justice and Education Team will offer a day-long workshop on the Spirituality of Howard Thurman – The Prayer that Undergirds Our Faith and Works. Rev. Thurman served as spiritual advisor to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and many other leaders and activists of the civil rights movement in the 1960’s. Rev. Thurman’s message emphasized the importance of contemplation\, silence\, common unity\, and nonviolence as the foundation of social justice activism. \nThe plenary speaker will be Thurman expert\, Martin Doblmeier\, an American documentary filmmaker\, known for directing films for public television\, including Emmy Award winner Backs Against The Wall: The Howard Thurman Story (2019). We will watch the documentary together and Mr. Doblmeier will offer reflections on the importance of prayer in Rev. Thurman’s writings on social justice and his influence on civil rights activists. \nThe day will also include workshops on prayer through two contemporary theologies. The workshops will be offered by Cassidy Hall\, award-winning documentarian and author\, and Rev. Andrea Arsene\, Rector of the Episcopal Church of All Saints. \nLunch is included and the workshop is offered free of charge to all. DESCRIPTION:God calls ALL believers to ministry. How can we grow closer to God so that we can hear that call? And once we’ve heard it\, how do we say “YES!” \nIn this day long retreat at St. Francis In-the-Fields Episcopal Church\, we will try-on skills for hearing God’s call through practices such as centering prayer\, lectio divina\, journaling\, writing a spiritual autobiography\, and weather permitting\, walking a labrynth. We will also recognize the myriad ways in which we are already living into God’s call. \nFor those who think they may be called to ordained ministry\, there will be information on how to enter the process. \nThis event is designed for all believers – those seeking to deepen their spiritual response to their lay call as well as those who are contemplating becoming deacons and priests. \nCost is $15 to cover cost of lunch. SUMMARY:Lay Eucharistic Visitor Training on Zoom - June 2023
DESCRIPTION:Lay Eucharistic Vistor (LEV) training is required for those who seek to be licensed or to renew their license for this ministry.  Prior to signing up for this training\, attendees must have been approved for this ministry by their rector\, priest-in-charge or person charged with pastoral oversight in the congregation. \nIn preparation for the training\, participants are urged to read “A Manual for Eucharistic Visitors” by Beth Wickenberg Ely.  A completed application form signed by their rector or priest-in-charge and senior warden should be sent to Janet Brinkworth\, 125 Monument Circle\, Indianapolis\, IN  46204 or email to brinkworth@indydio.org. \nPlease click here for all details and requirements.
