SUMMARY:Youth Ministry University: Monthly Virtual Trainings
DESCRIPTION:From August through March\, we offer monthly virtual trainings informed by the needs identified within our Youth Ministry University Cohort. These sessions are open to anyone—both within and beyond our diocese—and all are welcome to participate\, regardless of congregational or denominational affiliation. \nClick here to download a flyer! \nMarch 10\, 2026; 6:30-8:00pm EST | Cultivating Racial Equity in Youth Ministry \nYouth ministry can either reinforce the status quo or become a force for justice. This workshop equips leaders—especially white leaders—to examine their own bias\, grow in cultural humility\, and center the experiences of BIPOC youth. We’ll explore how to move from performative inclusion to authentic solidarity\, with practical tools for building anti-racist ministries rooted in love\, equity\, and the liberating way of Jesus.\nGuest Speaker: Sally Ulrey; author of Dismantling Racism for Youth Curriculum\, a collaboration between The Absolom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing and the Office of Youth Ministries of the Diocese of Atlanta \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Clergy Conference at Waycross - March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows and your clergy colleagues from throughout the Diocese of Indianapolis for a time of learning\, rest\, and renewal at Waycross Camp and Conference Center\, March 9 – 11. \nWe are delighted that the Rev. Dr. Regina Walton will be our speaker. She is Editor and Content Developer for Discipleship Initiatives at Forward Movement\, and Denominational Counselor for Episcopal/Anglican Students and Lecturer at Harvard Divinity School. She is a priest\, poet\, scholar and teacher. She lives in the greater Boston area with her husband and two teenage children\, and enjoys quilting\, playing fiddle and mandolin\, and rooting for the Red Sox. \nHer work recognizes that The Church in North America is undergoing a radical transformation\, losing membership at an unprecedented rate which was recently termed the “Great Dechurching.” In response\, she has proposed a theological framework\, the Remnant Church\, which\, instead of answers or fixes\, offers postures to adopt during a time of institutional diminishment and the breakdown of traditional systems and structures. A Remnant Church is one that looks to the past with repentance rather than nostalgia\, and makes reparations; is realistic about the present rather than avoidant\, and returns to the essentials of discipleship; and anticipates future restoration\, not with false optimism but in Christian hope\, seeking a gospel future beyond itself. \n“In our time together\, we will first explore what it means to be a Remnant Church\, and why this framework speaks to the complexities of our current moment. Next\, we will discuss what we actually mean when we talk about discipleship and making disciples\, and examine how individuals move from tentative spiritual seeking to following Christ in their daily lives\, rooted in relationship with God. We will engage with the work of several great “saints of Christian formation” to explore how disciples are formed in the Remnant Church. Finally\, we will reflect on what it means to be people of hope seeking a gospel future beyond ourselves\, for the long haul. and our conference theme will explore.” \nConference check in is from 3 -5 pm on Monday\, March 9. The conference will conclude following lunch on Wednesday. \nThe bishop expects that all active clergy will participate in the entirety of the conference.  However\, if you have a conflict in your schedule and will not be able to attend the full conference\, please indicate this in your registration so that we have an accurate meal and room count. \nClick here to register for this year’s Clergy Conference.

SUMMARY:Preaching Among Friends - Winter 2026
DESCRIPTION:Preaching Among Friends is a six-week online workshop for lay preachers\, suitable for beginners and for experienced preachers looking to hone their craft. Meeting on Sunday evenings\, this course addresses the unique positions of lay preachers by offering the chance to claim their voice to preach\, craft relevant sermons they believe with one clear message of Good News\, and apply a sustainable practice that respects the limited amount of time they may have for sermon prep. The course will meet Sunday evening each week for 75 minutes in the early evening for the first five weeks. There will be an average of two hours of homework per week. In the sixth week\, the class will meet nightly as preachers draft their sermons in real time. \nRegistration Deadline: January 5\, 2026 \nThe cost of the course is $275 ($475 for participants outside the Diocese of Indianapolis). $200 will be refunded to you upon successful completion of the course (Diocese of Indianapolis participants only). Scholarship support is available. Refunds for completion and scholarships are limited to participants from the Diocese of Indianapolis only. Please contact Canon Brendan O’Sullivan-Hale for additional details. \nSuccessful participants are able to navigate the Bible and liturgical calendar\nconfidently. They can: \n\nfind Scripture passages\nfollow footnotes\narticulate that the context of each book is particular\nfind passages assigned by the lectionary for a Sunday\nroughly define the theology and focus of each liturgical season\n\nThis is an entirely online course. The cohort leader will guide participants to learn the course site\, but participants must be able to: \n\naccess a computer with high-speed internet (Mobile devices can work but are cumbersome and usually lead to increased frustration. They don’t have the capabilities of a computer.)\ndownload and upload pdf and Word files\nclick links\njoin a Zoom room\, mute their microphones\, and accept the invitation to join a breakout room\ntype in dialogue boxes\ncheck spam and trash folders for email (and ideally\, safe-list incoming messages from Backstory Preaching)\n\nSchedule: \nJanuary 18: Orientation \nJanuary 25: Who says you can preach? \nFebruary 1: Read the text. \nFebruary 8: Study the text. \nFebruary 15: Discern a Word\, Part 1 \nFebruary 22: Discern a Word\, Part 2 \nMarch 1 – March 5: Craft a Sermon in Real Time \nREGISTER HERE
