SUMMARY:Clergy Conference at Waycross - March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows and your clergy colleagues from throughout the Diocese of Indianapolis for a time of learning\, rest\, and renewal at Waycross Camp and Conference Center\, March 9 – 11. \nWe are delighted that the Rev. Dr. Regina Walton will be our speaker. She is Editor and Content Developer for Discipleship Initiatives at Forward Movement\, and Denominational Counselor for Episcopal/Anglican Students and Lecturer at Harvard Divinity School. She is a priest\, poet\, scholar and teacher. She lives in the greater Boston area with her husband and two teenage children\, and enjoys quilting\, playing fiddle and mandolin\, and rooting for the Red Sox. \nHer work recognizes that The Church in North America is undergoing a radical transformation\, losing membership at an unprecedented rate which was recently termed the “Great Dechurching.” In response\, she has proposed a theological framework\, the Remnant Church\, which\, instead of answers or fixes\, offers postures to adopt during a time of institutional diminishment and the breakdown of traditional systems and structures. A Remnant Church is one that looks to the past with repentance rather than nostalgia\, and makes reparations; is realistic about the present rather than avoidant\, and returns to the essentials of discipleship; and anticipates future restoration\, not with false optimism but in Christian hope\, seeking a gospel future beyond itself. \n“In our time together\, we will first explore what it means to be a Remnant Church\, and why this framework speaks to the complexities of our current moment. Next\, we will discuss what we actually mean when we talk about discipleship and making disciples\, and examine how individuals move from tentative spiritual seeking to following Christ in their daily lives\, rooted in relationship with God. We will engage with the work of several great “saints of Christian formation” to explore how disciples are formed in the Remnant Church. Finally\, we will reflect on what it means to be people of hope seeking a gospel future beyond ourselves\, for the long haul. and our conference theme will explore.” \nConference check in is from 3 -5 pm on Monday\, March 9. The conference will conclude following lunch on Wednesday. \nThe bishop expects that all active clergy will participate in the entirety of the conference.  However\, if you have a conflict in your schedule and will not be able to attend the full conference\, please indicate this in your registration so that we have an accurate meal and room count. \nClick here to register for this year’s Clergy Conference.
