SUMMARY:  The Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis seeks an experienced lay or ordained leader to support congregations, clergy, and lay leaders through transitions in clergy leadership. The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills and abilities to help congregational leaders navigate these significant opportunities for reconciliation and healing of past divisions, clear discernment of goals and challenges, and moving forward with renewed faith and clarity of mission.

The Associate for Transitions and Congregational Development will work directly with and report to the Canon to the Ordinary for Congregational Development and Leadership.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Serve as diocesan transition officer, providing support to congregations in transition by working closely with wardens, vestries, search committees, interim clergy, search coaches, and churches.
  • Attend transition conferences and work collaboratively with colleagues in other dioceses, particularly in Province V.
  • Oversee all necessary processes including search profiles, background checks, and letters of agreement.
  • Work directly with the Commission on Ministry and Standing Committee, supporting people in the process of discernment and formation toward ordination to holy orders.
  • Oversee Safeguarding God’s People training for lay and ordained leaders in the Diocese, ensuring compliance with diocesan and church-wide standards for the well-being of all.
  • Assist the Canon to the Ordinary for Congregational Development and Leadership with other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must be an experienced lay or ordained leader with the following established skills and abilities:

  • Capacity to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Strong facilitation and leadership skills
  • Ability to address and resolve conflict
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs
  • Prayerful curiosity and a sense of humor
  • Strong organization and administrative skills and the willingness to exercise those
  • Capacity to recognize and call forth gifts in individuals and congregations
  • Experience establishing relationships and developing trust with individuals and groups
