Global Missions Commission Issues Challenge Grant for Brasilia Project

The campaign to support a new sports and community center in the Diocese of Brasilia is nearing its goal of $50,000, says the Rev. Jeffrey Bower, chair of the Global Missions Commission. The offering at the diocesan convention Eucharist on November 16 will support the effort, which as of October 29 lacks just $5,000.

To raise the remaining funds, the Global Missions Commission has designated a dollar-for-dollar match of gifts up to a total of $2500 given by Thanksgiving. “We are hopeful that the generosity of the masses will allow us to move forward with this exciting project that will provide a space for the community of Pedregal to gather, to learn, to play and to build life-giving and sustainable relationships with one another,” says Bower.

In June, the commission received an anonymous matching gift of $25,000 to support the sports and community center construction. The fund to match the anonymous gift was established in memory of the Rev. Drew Klatte, a former chair of the Global Missions Commission who was instrumental in developing the partnership with Brasilia before his death in 2014. St. John’s, Lafayette, made the lead gift to the match.
