Call for Resolutions for Diocesan Convention

FROM THE RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE, JULY 2017

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Members of the Diocesan household are invited to submit resolutions for consideration at the 180th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis. Proposed resolutions must be submitted to the committee on or before, August 26th. Please send resolutions to Kim Christopher at the Diocesan office (christopher@indydio.org).

Please begin preparing resolutions now, so that we all have the opportunity to fully participate in this process of discernment.  Submitting proposed resolutions to us early allows the diocese to engage in study and prayerful conversation about matters important to our common life.

The resolutions received will be reviewed by the committee in time to post them on the diocesan website and for them to be disseminated to all deaneries and congregations before the pre-convention Deanery Council meetings.

While a provision in our canons allows resolutions submitted later to be considered by convention (if the Bishop and convention agree to bring the resolution to the floor), this provision should be reserved for resolutions that respond to changes of circumstances unforeseen at the time of the deadline.

The proper format of a resolution should

  • state the resolved clauses first,
  • followed by an explanation.

The name of the person or group submitting/sponsoring the resolution must be listed at the end.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The Resolutions Committee
